Even with everything that happened, the war, the displacement, the loss... Even with all of those there’s just no chance that everything was gone. I was set to find his writings online, expecting an easy task. It was easy... I embarked on a journey, blending personal history with the power of modern AI. Using Large Language Models like ChatGPT, I explored digitized Yiddish archives to uncover my great-grandfather’s writings, reclaiming a piece of my own legacy. This talk highlights the process, the challenges, and the emotional impact of using AI in a profoundly personal context, while exploring broader implications for historical research and personal deep dives.
